Sports cream overdose

Sports cream is very common for treating aches and pains and often works really well. However, care should be taken when using any as sports cream contains two poisonous ingredients-Menthol and Methyl-salicylate. Overuse is very dangerous and can be fatal.

Most people don't realize how powerful our bodies are at absorbing things through our skin. This is why people often over apply lots of cream and lotions without a second thought of danger. People don't throw a bottle of tablets down their throat, but quite often do pour half a bottle of sports cream over their legs without thinking twice.

SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSE

  • Breathing is difficult
  • Vision can be blurred and eyes feel irritated
  • Ears are ringing
  • Throat swells
  • The skin is warm and clammy and can develop a rash
  • The casualty can hallucinate
  • Sickness
  • The kidneys can fail

If you notice any of these symptoms after using sports cream medical help should be sought immediately. Whilst waiting for medical help you should ensure you have as much information ready as possible. For example

  1. Name, age and weight of casualty.
  2. Why you used an injury.
  3. Was the sports cream used over a period of time.
  4. Was the sports cream applied to the skin or was it taken orally.
  5. When and what did they use.
