Sports that involve jumping such as gymnastics or racquet sports where the heel can be landed on suddenly with force are usually where you will find a bruise to the heel. It can be difficult to treat and sometimes stubborn and last for some weeks.
Heel bruises are most commonly caused by severe or repetitive landing.
The heel feels sore when pressure is applied and this is due to inflammation in the protective pad of fat which lies under the heel.
Apply ice and rest the heel from any sporting activity. Avoid undue pressure on the heel until walking is comfortable. If there is no improvement after a couple of weeks you may need specialist treatment from you doctor which may include an injection and electrotherapy.
